Hal has helped to or personally created numerous classic and ground breaking techniques and moments on many animation and visual effects Academy Award and Emmy winning projects. Applied Reserach
- Directed and Produced for the Siggraph 2003 Conference, the opening, closing, and segway title sequences and 73 individual animated short credits for the Electronic and Animation Theaters:
-- organized, arranged, and orchestrated the Savannah College of Art and Design's participation in the 2003 conference;
-- perfected the use of the Maya 5.0 Vecter Render software to achieve the final look of the original title design concepts.
- Directed and Co-produced through Walt Disney Studio's, four "waiting to board" travel commercials for the Disney theme parks attraction "Star Tours":
-- plotted, photographed, and composited various additional effects elements based on the supplied dialogue and music tracks;
-- supervised the final post production assembly and color timing for final approval by Walt Disney Studios and George Lucas.
- Directed and produced the Walt Disney Home Video logo distributed on Disney video tapes from the years 1985 to 1994:
-- co-designed and photographed approved artwork based on a supplied music and sound effects track supplied by Walt Disney Studio's;
-- supervised the final videotape transfer and sound mix mastering.
- Directed and co-produced for "Twilight Zone, The Movie" a recreation of the original opening title sequence:
-- oversaw the construction of various miniatures and camera ready artwork;
-- co-supervised high speed miniature and motion control photography
-- supervised final compositing for final approval by Steven Spielberg.
- Developed, produced, directed, and distributed an award winning children’s educational video series entitled "ZAP":
-- conceived and wrote five episodes from initial outlines to final shooting scripts with additional narration for post production;
-- produced and directed the five episodes from initial inception to final post production mixing and mastering;
-- supervised and approved all marketing study's generated from test screenings by children in the age group from two to ten years of age;
-- designed and supervised the overall merchandise and advertising packaging and manufacturing.
Innovation / Exploration
- Invented and co-software engineered new stop motion process of digitally photographing conventional stop-motion animation:
-- conceived the initial idea and managed the development process;
-- beta tested the various custom software version's through to the final 1.0 version; -- approved final version and drafted written papers and breakdown designs for the filling of the U. S. Patent. - Invented and engineered the worlds first 24P digital stop motion animation capture system and retro fitted it to a custom built Mechanical Concepts / Kuper motion control system:
-- conceived the initial idea and managed the development and construction processes;
-- oversaw the utilization of the completed system during the production of the worlds first 24P digitally recorded stop motion animation short film “Rick and Rocky”.
- Co-conceived and manufactured the first motion control camera system for the OMNIMAX film format:
-- designed, engineered, and manufactured hard precision mechanics for thirty foot track and compound assembly;
-- assisted in the development of special modified Tondreau (now Kuper) software and driver cards;
-- programmed and photographed the first Omnimax slitscan streak effects for Ford sponsored auto show.
- Supervised and invented underwater radio controlled NTI Alien animatronics for the feature film "The Abyss":
-- co-invented and developed a new clear yet semi iridescent flexible urethane for the base bodies, wing sections, and arms;
-- invented and developed a new method of treating clear Lexan for a higher level of tensile strength for the completely machined animatronic heads;
-- designed, manufactured, and final assembly of the complete animatronics;
-- invented and developed a fiber optic radio or computer controlled lighting system and fiber optic light source systems for each of the puppets;
-- oversaw the on set structured organization and support system.
